Some interesting news to share this time around. I found this interesting bit of trivia from the NEW GoCollect site of "Spookology" on Halloween.

1. October 31 came to be called Halloween when the Christians proclaimed November 1 as All Hallow Day. The night before All Hallow Day then became known as All Hallow Eve, and was later shortened to Halloween.
2. Vampire bats in the same colony support their roostmates by regurgitating blood to bats that are unable to find food.
3. Orange and black became Halloween colors because of orange is associated with harvests and black is associated with death.
4. The very first jack o' lantern was made out of a turnip.
5. In 1996, Americans ate 20 million pounds of candy corn.
6. "Hallow" is an old word meaning holy, while "e'en" is Scottish for evening.
   A pumpkin is a fruit.
7. Halloween is second only to Christmas in spending. Consumers spend over $2.5 Billion during Halloween.
8. In October 2002, the biggest pumpkin was weighed in at 1,337.6 pounds at a pumpkin festival in Topsfield, Mass.
9. Witch means wise one. It comes from the Saxon word wica. Witches were thought to be wise enough to tell the future.
10. Halloween is the 8th largest card-sending occasion. There are over 28 million Halloween cards sent each year.
